Overview of Snorkl

Snorkl is an amazing website that uses AI to give my students feedback. When they say "instant feedback" they mean it. Snorkl allows me to create problems for my students that are the right difficulty level (since I'm the one creating them) and are curated to our learning goals. After the students submit their assignment on the website they will get feedback from an AI chat bot immediately telling them how their verbal response was and if their written response was correct.

Classroom Examples

I plan on using Snorkl for homework assignments. In my observation class I had my students use the program as classwork. Unfortunately since the website requires verbal answers as well as whiteboard there was a lot of background noise in each response. Going forward I will be using Snorkl as homework instead of classwork.

ISTE Standards Relation

Snorkl follows ISTE Standards 1.1.c and 1.1.d. It follows 1.1.c because it gives the student feedback on their verbal and written response to the question. Snorkl demonstrates 1.1.d because students will begin to understand how in depth their verbal response needs to be to get 100%. It is harder than you might originally assume.

Differentiation

As for differentiation, I can place the students in groups. I will then label the problems with group 1, 2, and 3 at the end. Group 1 will be students who are having more trouble with the topic, Group 2 will be students who are right on track with understanding, and Group 3 will be students who are advanced in their knowledge and understanding of the topic. This way the students will choose their group for the assignment with the proper difficulty level for them.

Considerations & Benefits

I would consider speech impediments for this website. Sometimes the AI Chatbot will not hear the student correctly and give them a worse grade than they originally would have had if it heard them. To use this program I would make sure that you listen to each of the responses if the students have questions or concerns about their grades. There are so many benefits to this program. You can create your own problems and the students will receive great feedback immediately on those problems without you having to go through each student and respond yourself.
